What to expect from psychiatry sessions?
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who have gone through full medication training and rotations in aspects of medicine, before opting to specialise in mental health. They are trained in the diagnosis of conditions and prescription of specialist medications to help these conditions. Their consults will tend to focus on understanding your health, your reaction to medications, and aiming to titrate you on the correct medication. Psychiatrists often take notes on their computers to record your responses.
Every psychiatrist will have their own unique approach, but if you have never been to a Psychiatry appointment to give you an idea they are often similar to GP consults typically in style. Some psychiatrists choose to train in additional talking therapies, but many do not provide this.
How do I get medicare rebates?
Medicare rebates can be given by accessing the correct referral for services provided. Referrals must be dated before your appointment date. For dietetics you can access a chronic disease management plan or eating disorder care plan. For Psychiatry or Nurse Practitioners a referral from the GP gives rebates. For Psychology you can access a mental health care plan, eating disorder care plan or chronic disease management plan.
How do I pay for my appointment?
Full payment is required 7 days before the appointment unless a payment plan is arranged. Payment will be taken from the provided card 7 days prior unless otherwise agreed. Medicare rebate processing can be completed after full payment is received (for eligible clients) after the service has been provided.
I receive NDIS can I arrange an appointment?
