Child or Adult Referrals to Dietetics

For both adults and children, your GP can guide you best on whether you are eligible for either of these 2 plans which provide a referral to the dietician & give rebates to your dietician.

You can ask the GP to address the referral to Dietetics at Kin Clinic

Option 1 Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan (EDP)

Requirements:

A clinical diagnosis of:

  • Anorexia nervosa (no further criteria needed), or a diagnosis of bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, or OSFED plus an EDE-Q score ≥3, evidence of rapid weight loss/frequent bingeing/compensatory behaviour (3+ times a week), and at least 2 of a set of risk indicators (e.g. underweight, medical complications, hospital admission in the past 12 months, inadequate response to prior treatment).

What it gives:

  • Up to 40 psychological treatment sessions and 20 dietetics sessions over a 12-month period, plus assessment, treatment planning, and ongoing review.

Option 2 GP Chronic Condition Management Plan

Requirements: At least one medical condition that has been, or is likely to be, present for 6+ months (or is terminal) — there’s no fixed list of qualifying conditions, it’s at the GP’s clinical judgement.

What it gives: A structured care plan setting goals, roles and management steps, plus access to up to 5 Medicare-subsidised allied health services per calendar year (e.g. physio, psychology, dietetics, exercise physiology) to support management of the condition.
